"Linking Agriculture, Nutrition and Health: Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainable Development"
It is my pleasure to invite you to engage in The Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development's (AIARD) multi-day conference that will explore the issues surrounding international development, agriculture and health.
AIARD is an association of professionals, practitioners and students who dedicate themselves to seeking solutions to the problems of promoting effective and lasting development with a focus on the roles that agriculture and rural development play within that arena.
The confluence of agriculture and health issues in development is central to the welfare and even to the very existence of as much as half the world's population who fight for survival, productivity and advancement on a daily basis. These vulnerable people often are constrained by difficulties related to health, nutrition, and insufficient agricultural productivity (for subsistence and for income generation). Unfortunately, these issues are often addressed by specialists within their own fields or in silos, which has prevented the development of holistic and systemic solutions to these vexing problems.
The AIARD Executive Committee has decided to focus this year's conference on the connections between agriculture and health development in an attempt to break down the silos between the two disciplines. Consequently, we have entitled the Annual Conference Linking Agriculture, Nutrition and Health: Opportunities and Challenges for Sustainable Development. The conference will take place from June 6 to June 9 and it will be held at the Capitol Holiday Inn at 550 C Street SW, Washington, DC.
Please plan to join approximately 100 other committed and engaged development specialists who will listen, share their experiences, learn and develop ideas for action on the critical issues that will be covered in our program. We will have a lively mix of plenary speeches, panel presentations, and interactive sessions for providing feedback and discussion. More complete conference information and registration instructions can be obtained at the following link on the AIARD web site: http://aiard.org/meetings/2010annual/index.htm
The AIARD Annual Conference is a unique gathering of development professionals from government, the private sector, academia, non-governmental organizations, foundations and consulting firms. The opportunity to share ideas, make new acquaintances, renew friendships and contribute and consider creative and innovative ideas to address some of the most difficult issues in development is what we offer. We value the contributions that you can bring to this event and welcome your participation in it. You can help us make AIARD's 46th Annual Conference its best ever.
I hope to see you in Washington in early June at the AIARD conference. I welcome your participation and look forward to engaging in a productive several days of stimulating discourse on the issues related to agriculture, health and nutrition.
